Stella Dreis was born in 1972 in Plovdiv / Bulgaria. In 1995 she moved to Germany, where she first studied fashion design. Today she works as a freelance artist and illustrator in Heidelberg.

Her first picture book was published in 2008 by Clavis, Hasselt in the Netherlands. Since then, her picture books have been published by numerous national and international publishers.

Stella Dreis describes her fascination for people and working with them as one of her great passions.

Stella Dreis has received numerous awards for her work. Recently, she was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) 2024. Among others, she received the German Children's Book Award for Best Illustration 2023, the Hasselt Publication Award, the Troisdorf Picture Book Award and the Golden Plaque of the Biennale of Illustration in Bratislava.

Her paintings are exhibited internationally.
